Sleeper Island Association
Introduction
Sleeper Island Association is a voluntary, non-profit Corporation, formed in 1975 by a group of shorefront lot owners on
Sleeper Island in Lake Winnipesaukee in West Alton, NH. It's purpose is to preserve the center of the Island of approximately 60 acres
(which was purchased in 1980) in its natural state (with the possible exception of septic easements in the perimeter), to
provide fire protection on the Island as a supplement to the Town's service, and to provide social activities for its members.
Currently, there is a walking trail of approximately 2 miles around the center of the island for exercise and for access in the event of fire.
In addition, the Association owns 3 fire pumps located at shorefront lots and fire-fighting equipment at 4 locations along the trail.
Membership
Membership in Sleeper Island Association is voluntary and limited to owners of shorefront property on the Island, with one share
of stock in the Association available for purchase by a lot owner(s), regardless of the number of lots owned. In the event of the sale of a member's lot,
the member may surrender their Certificate to the Association and request transfer of ownership to the new owner. Otherwise the new owner
may purchase their own share.
Cost Of Membership
For new shorefront property owners who have not received transferred membership, the current cost of membership is $25.00 for
one share of stock. Dues are $30/year to maintain active, voting membership.
